Why restore instead of replace

Old slate beats new MDF every time

An antique solid-slate pool table from a real American manufacturer is built better than 90% of what is sold new today. Hand-carved frames, three-piece tournament-grade slate, real hardwood rails, leather pockets — these were made to last a hundred years. The good ones already have. Restoration costs a fraction of replacement and preserves character that money cannot buy. We have brought tables back from estate sales, garages, basements, and barns. If yours is worth saving, we will save it.

Restoration Services

Every restoration is built to your table’s specific condition and history. Mix and match the work that makes sense.

Slate Re-seaming & Repair

Old beeswax pulled out, slate edges dressed, seams re-filled and leveled flat. Chipped slate corners repaired with structural epoxy when salvageable. The playing surface returns to tournament flatness.

Frame Refinishing & Staining

Stripped down to bare wood, sanded, stained to original color or to your spec, sealed with appropriate finish. Decades of cigarette smoke, pet damage, and sun fade come right off.

Rail Cushion Rebuilds

Original cushion rubber dries out and dies after 30+ years. We strip the rails, replace with new K-66 profile rubber, re-cover with fresh felt, and bolt them back so balls bounce true again.

Leg Restoration & Refinishing

Carved Victorian-era pedestal legs, claw-foot legs, and elaborate Brunswick legs get individual restoration treatment. Cracked wood repaired, finish refreshed, hardware re-blacked or re-plated.

Pocket Replacement

New leather drop pockets, fringed pockets, or webbed pockets installed to match the era of your table. Custom-cut leather, matched threading, period-appropriate buckles or rivets.

Hardware Sourcing & Custom Parts

Missing rail bolts, ornamental brass fittings, name plates, sight diamonds, and structural hardware tracked down through our antique-table parts network. Custom-machined when originals are not available.

Our Restoration Process

1

Honest Assessment

We evaluate your table on site or from clear photos. You get an itemized scope, realistic timeline, and a written quote — including a recommendation to walk away if restoration does not make financial sense.

2

Disassembly & Inventory

Table broken down piece by piece, every original part bagged and labeled. Slate inspected and weighed. Hardware inventoried. Anything missing or damaged is identified before we leave the assessment.

3

Restoration Work

Frame work in our shop, slate work on site, rails rebuilt, hardware sourced or fabricated, finish applied with proper cure time. We send progress photos at every milestone so you know exactly where things stand.

4

Reassembly & Final Setup

Restored components brought back, table reassembled in your room, slate seamed flat, new felt installed and stretched, rails bolted, full ball-roll test. We do not call it done until it plays true.

Why Choose Billiard Home for Restoration

7+ Years on Vintage Tables

We have hands on a hundred-year-old table at least once a month. The quirks of pre-war Brunswick hardware, the right way to repair cracked slate, where to source pearl sight inlays — this is not new to us.

Honest About Walk-Away Calls

Not every old table is worth restoring. If yours is not, we will tell you and we will not charge for the assessment. Our reputation matters more than one job.

Period-Correct Where Possible

We source original-era hardware first, replicate where originals are gone, and document any modern substitutions clearly so future restorers know what is original and what is not.

Progress Photos at Every Milestone

You see the table before, during disassembly, mid-restoration, and after. No black-box restorations, no surprises at delivery.

Bundled Refelting Included

Since the table is apart anyway, fresh felt is part of every full restoration. Choose from 20+ standard or premium Simonis colors at the assessment stage.

SoCal & Phoenix Coverage

San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County, Inland Empire, North County, South Bay, and the Phoenix metro. Restoration work happens at our shop or on-site depending on scope.

Pool Table Restoration FAQ

What does pool table restoration include?

Restoration scope is custom to your table. Common work includes slate re-seaming with fresh beeswax, frame refinishing or staining, rail cushion rebuilds, leg refinishing, pocket leather or webbing replacement, custom hardware sourcing for vintage models, new felt installation, and full precision leveling. We assess your table on site and only recommend the work it actually needs.

How much does it cost to restore an antique pool table?

Restoration cost depends entirely on scope. A light refresh — re-seam slate, new felt, leg touch-up — is on one end. A full ground-up restoration of a 1920s Brunswick with frame refinishing, rail rebuild, custom hardware, and pocket leather replacement is on the other. We do free on-site or photo-based assessments and quote every job in writing before any work begins.

Can you restore a Brunswick antique pool table?

Yes. We have restored Brunswick Anniversary, Centennial, Gold Crown, Medalist, Brilliant Novelty and other vintage Brunswick models. We source period-correct hardware where possible and replicate when originals are not available. Other brands we restore include Olhausen, Connelly, AMF, Murrey, and most American antique manufacturers.

Should I restore my inherited pool table or replace it?

It depends on the table. A solid-slate antique with original wood and a recognizable brand is almost always worth restoring — replacement cost is far higher than restoration, and antique character cannot be bought new. A particle-board MDF table or a cheap import is usually not worth restoring. Send us photos and we will give you an honest assessment, including walking away if restoration does not make financial sense.

How long does a full pool table restoration take?

Light restorations finish in one to two on-site visits over a week. Full restorations involving frame refinishing or hardware sourcing typically take two to six weeks because wood finish work, custom parts, and curing time cannot be rushed. We give you a realistic timeline at the quote stage and update you at every milestone.
